Poor Drainage System At Bubiashie (Doris Akpe Agboglo).

Residents at Bubiashie Ashie- Kumowu Street complain of not having gutters, that whenever there is a down pour the street gets flooded. Speaking to some individuals there, they share a story of how the situation led to the death of a schoolgirl. After a heavy rainfall on Friday.

“On Friday, its rain heavily here and since it was a weekday, students have to go to school. A schoolgirl who is in J.H.S two (2) was on her way to school. The street was flooded, so she attempted to jump over the water mistakenly she slipped and fall. Not knowing there was a live wire inside the water, at once she got shocked by the wire and died on the spot. If a gutter would have been there the wire would have fallen inside the gutter and the girl would not jump.” Fafa who resides at Bubiashie narrated the story.

Others also shares their experience of how movement becomes difficult for them, whenever there is a downpour. One woman, living at Bubiashie who has a special child shares her experience with me of how sending her child to school becomes difficult when there is a downpour.

“I have a special child who cannot walk on her own, so I had to assist her to walk from our house to the junction to pick a vehicle to school. During, heavy downpours walking with her to the junction becomes challenging because our streets are flooded. As a result, I have no option but to let her walk in the water with me to the junction to pick a public vehicle.” Aunty Joana who lives at Bubiashie shares her experience.

Bubiashie Ashie-Kumowu street commonly known as Bubiashie circle station. Is one of the places located in Accra, its known to be one of the communities that do not have a gutter. As a result, individuals who live there pour water on the street. Also, when there is a heavy downpour, the street becomes flooded making movement from one place to another very challenging.

The residents of Bubiashie Ashie- Kumowu  pleading with the assembly man to construct gutters for them. According to them, the gutters will direct the flow of water and prevent the street from flooding.
